Hello,

I´d like to show the process I took to build a light road bike from scratch, with a limited budget and trying no get a full-black final look, with as less logos or banners as possible. Frame is a Hong-Fu FM015, with matte finish and 3K carbon pattern. I´ll post the individual parts and then the full bike. Total budget is 1,700€ and expected weight should be around 7Kg.

Frame, fork and headset was under 500€ shipping + customs fees included. Frame has a great finish, I expected it worse. Geometry is a bit weird, so I had to order 55 instead of my usual 54, but it has a short horizontal tube, and my back will appreciate the longer head tube.

Wheels are 1270g. Kimlin rims, 2.0-1.5 Sapim spokes, 24+28, three crosses on both sides on the rear wheel. Components are from bikehubstore.com
Although I ordered a reliable and light hubset, there are better options in the same shop.

The rest of parts; I decided to order a cheap groupset, to be updated in about 3 years, so I could save money to buy nice components. I decided to go for Shimano 105 because it's quite reliable for the price, and it's full black too. In the future I old like to have sram red black 2011, or sram rival. I don't like force current colour, but maybe they change it for 2013 or 2014, but right now, 105 works great. Cranks are 175mm, I should have ordered 172.5mm better...

Updated parts:

Bottle cages were sanded to match the frame matte finish.

I disliked look pedals very soon, I don't like to have just one side to attach the cleats, so I switched to Speedplay Zero's and I bought Ti spindles for them:

Seatpost from eBay. I appreciate the "no logo" look, and you can order it matte or glossy and with 3 different carbon patterns;

I also got a carbon front deraullier clamp, headset carbon cap and spacer, garmin edge 500, new TOKEN black BB to substitute the silver one from shimano... Cableset and cable housing are standard shimano, the ones included with the groupset kit.

Thank you!! :D

I´m looking forward to have decent weather and be able to photograph the latest version. I´m quite happy with the final result, it's rides really great. I´m planning to update the handbar with a carbon one, and perhaps cable housings with alligator i-link and mini i-link. After that I will consider the project version 1.0 finished.

Great! Makes me wonder why I'm building a 9 kilo steel bike from a rusty old frame with the same budget...

:thumbup:

Question though.....I thpough KinLin rims took the red veloplugs? I have some XR300's and I ordered red plugs, hope they fit when they come in!!!
