Thanks for the tip! That ended up being exactly what I've been looking for as a bag-alternative, just placed an order.

Best bag ever is the Lezyne microcaddy. Light, cheap, and so perfectly small. The best thing is that it doesn't have that unsightly strap that goes around the seatpost; and mine tucks up nicely under my Romin saddle so it isn't seen very much. I have a size small - which fits a tube, tool, tire lever, CO2 cartridge and head. Can't get much else in there, but that's perfect for 90% of my rides. I also bought the medium which I may use for longer half-day rides. I've seriously tried so many bags, and i'm just thrilled with this one. Other big perk for me is that my thighs are pretty big, and it was a challenge to find a bag that didn't cause my thigh to rub it during the pedal stroke. Lezyne fits the bill there too.

I tried that years ago, using a toe strap. The slight rubbing of the tube against the saddle rails wore a hole in it. Of course, I didn't realise this until I needed it.

I use this, you can also fit in 1 Co2 cartridge + valve tool.

Based on some of the comments on this thread I thought I'd try a Vaude bag. I bought a Vaude Tube in size medium as others were saying their bags come out small. The bag arrived today, it weighs 56 grams with a piece of stiffening fabric in, and 46 grams with this taken out. I have to say that the bag has more capacity than I thought, easily enough for two well folded inner tubes, tyre levers, and a multi-tool. I might even try the small version. Its saved about 70 grams on the Topeak it replaced.

You're only good for one flat with that thing. And what happens if your spoke breaks? Or your chain breaks? Then, you are really screwed.
