As in the title I'm having some problems with my 705. I got it last week from a friend of mine. To get rid of all of his data I reinstalled the software. This worked and I set it up as new. Since then I have done one ride where the unit worked perfectly. Today I tried to load a GPX file onto it for a ride tomorrow but I get an error saying the memory is full. Looking at the info bar there is something like 400kb left of the 1.6GB of internal memory. Looking through all of the files there are none larger than 1.3mb. What is taking up all of that space?! Hidden files?

I'd be grateful for any help as I'd like to use it to give me route directions.

Thanks!

Maybe your X:\Garmin\History folder is full of his rides? Garmin OS is not much more than 15mbs.

Can you see folder sizes in MacOS? If you find which folder is taking up the space maybe you can pinpoint the problem afterwards.

Edit: found this with a quick google: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=14356

This is everthing in the garmin file. There doesn't seem to be anything hogging memory.

This is odd though, the Garmin folder is 17.9MB but the Garmin drive is 1.02GB, so why is it full?

How do I do that?

I did a reset where all user data is deleted - holding mode while powering on - where a box pops up and they you select yes. However it didn't delete my user profile which is odd if it is meant to delete ALL user data. I also did a more basic reset - mode and reset (lap button). I'm going to phone Garmin UK tomorrow.

Memory problem sorted. Called UK customer services this morning the guy I spoke to said he didn't "really know much about macs" and that I should "google it". Needless to say i wasn't pleased. I then did some digging and found the email address of the UK fitness product manager explaining the little help I had got and detailed the problem with the unit. I got a quick response saying someone would be calling me in the afternoon. At 4pm a guy called and was very helpful. He suggested I use a windows machine to format the Garmin and then simply turn it on. It worked a treat. 970mb of space. Thanks Phil!

I still can't workout how load a route and see it in the machine though.
