I had less than great luck with several newly purchased bike parts, which I find odd especially considering the price tags involved. Thought I'd share with the ww gang:

Item: LW Gen III Tubulars
Problem: Front valve hole is noticeably smaller than the rear (ID about 1.5mm smaller). I tried 7-8 different types of valve extenders and only one of them could get through.
Fixed: By filing some carbon off for a good 15 mins, although took me half a day to find the right file.
Conclusion: Strange for a $5K wheelset made in Germany.

Item: The valve extender mentioned above, made by Vittoria
Problem: won't screw onto the Vittoria's OWN burgandy valves on some $100+ tires. It looks really small.
Fixed: Tossed them. Fortunately the LW wheel was fixed so I used a different valve extender, probably made by Mavic.
Conclusion: I must be missing something.

Item: Zipp 808 Campy compatible rear wheel
Problem: The cassette+hub body combo apparently has 6-8mm of play along the axle, apparently something must be missing on the axle, might be a long spacer or something.
Fixed: not yet...

Compatibility issues still exist. In the early days of my weight weenieism getting one light part almost always made one to several more purchases to bring it all together. I'm referring to the 70's and 80's. Yes, I'm that old.

It is amazing how many times I have read of high end parts not up to scratch . I hope you send all companys involved some emails to let them know of your unhappiness and also that it will get a mention on a few threads, you should not have to start filing down carbon on a 5k wheelset.
It always seems to be the companys who have been around longer that take there customers for granted.

You do realize you have to remove the valve itself, and replace it with the extender?

Interesting. I would have probably sent the LWs back... for that price.

And wait how long for them to process it and send another one back?? That's almost an exercise in futility by itself

Bike has shimano group, wheels are campa- on my bike works perfectly

5min works:)
Yeah....cassete lockring has a contact with rear fork, cassete hardly rotate(friction)
On my lucky i put in my pocket some piece of 15mm/10mm washer wich we insert between sprocket and fork.

My point really is that, had TS known to replace the valves on the tyres, he would have been able to use the Vittoria tubular extenders, instead of the ones he uses now. Those he uses now are meant for clincher inner tubes that don't have a removable valve, which means that the extenders have to be wider because they have have to fit around the valve. The Vittoria extenders would more than likely have fitted the valve holes on his LWs.

Yep, I recently replaced my entire valve with a longer one for my Evo CXes on 404s. The valves are expensive, but a great alternative to an extender. They were noticeably smaller diameter than my Zipp extenders, and I had to use electrical tape to secure the valve from moving around.
