Hi guys

I have an anoying problem with my sram XX brake lever. The brake lever release mechanism activates itself on the front brake lever when I hit a bump at normal speed. Like if it was too sensitive. The rear one is ok. The thing that make it weird is it doesnt act up like this 100% of the time. But when it does its anoting and dangerous.

It was all good on my last ride, but my brakes were making a horrible squeaking noise so I cleaned my rotors with alcool and I recentered my brakes. Then The next ride the problem appears.

Can anyone point out the possible cause and a solution to fix this?

Do you mean the function that allows the levers to click forward a little more and then you have to overcome a bit of resistance to get the lever back into its normal stroke? If so then it's just a worn out little grommet in the lever. Costs a few dollars for a new one. The more you click the levers out past this point (designed for travel I believe) the faster this little grommet will wear out. IE. downhillers go through them at an alarming rate as they stand in line for the shuttle subconsciously flicking their levers out and in.

It's a hard thing to find online. Go into a bike shop that knows mountain bikes and get them to order it from SRAM.

Just download the sram/avid spare parts catalogue from their website, write down the article number and order it from sram directly via your local bike shop.

at page 41, they show an exploded view of the brake lever, can anyone tell what part it is in the document. I think its the (F) part but not sure.

thank for any help, I want to ride my MTB as soon as possible without that anoying problem

I dont know what year my XX brake are. They are the non world cup version, carbon lever and grey body.

EDIT: sorry it's not only item 5 in the chart, it's entire assemply under item 2.

It's typically like $15-20 retail.

here's the shot: these are probably part numbers on the pachage. hope it helps.

looks the same as mine, so 2010-2011 XX.
Also you better replace it earlier than later. Mine master cilinder started leaking in about 2-3 month time from the moment the click "issue" started to happen. :| Luckily not in the race.

Update for the whealth of the WW database

My mecanic solved the problem. Dismounting the brake lever was quite a hassle and I suggest you really buy the special puller tool. My mecanic managed to build a homemade puller!

When removing a small part in the lever, the oil splashed out. The brake needs a blees after changing the parts. I thought it was a job I could do but im glad I went to my lbs.

The right parts are the whole no 5 in the above sram part document. They sre 35$ retail
