Depends what caused it. If the bike was crashed, then the pedal hits the deck first and the type of force exerted on the crank (sharp and great) is not something it's designed to take.FelixOr wrote:hi,

sorry, I didn't mention the crankarm just broke while riding. no accident whatsoever. it's from a german forum..... happened some time ago.
the guy stood at a traffic-light and when he pushed, the crank broke.

the guy stood at a traffic-light and when he pushed, the crank broke.
would you tell the world via a forum if you crashed your bike 3 weeks earlier? if you were after a warrenty replacement?
i would be interested to know about both parts breaking @ the same time....

that was one of my first thoughts as well. another thing that i can't imagine that the crank arm breaks off completely after one pedalstroke. i think, you have to notice something before this happens. it must have been damaged in some way, doesn't it?

Another way you could break it would be to hit a curb with your pedal while you were riding. I got too close once and the whole bike with me on it was lifted off the ground. It didn't break though.
Also, hitting the ground with your pedal while going around a turn.
