I have been staying here in Gent since last thursday and even managed to get a sweet spot on the Paterberg for the RvV (man, did they go up quick compared to some of the people i passed in the sportive). Sadly, I will be leaving Belgium next thursday and would like to find a good bar to watch the Paris-Roubaix race in. Food and drinks are necessary of course! But a bar with a good reputation for showing the classics would be much appreciated.

Can any Belgians or locals offer any insight of where i might have a good time? It doesn't have to be in Gent at all.

Thanks in advance

You have a car/transport? If so, you could head for some bar in the countryside. I know some great places near where I live. All are lively places where a lot of cyclists tend to have a pitstop.

Moeder Stiene (a well-known hangout):

Den Drijhaard at the Haaghoek/Leberg junction:

Huys te Oudenhove. Big screens, great food and cheap beer, my favourite pick:

Last but not least, you have the Centrum Ronde van Vlaanderen in Oudenaarde:

A very nice place to watch the race and also easy to reach with public transport.

The 'difficulty' in Ghent is that many bars cater to a different kind of public and many won't put the TV on.
The places in the countryside are much more sport/race-minded and some if not most are associated with their own cycle club.

If it has to be Ghent, a nice hangout can be DOK:

Thank a bunch de zwarten! I'll definitely have a look at the bars outside of Gent, they sound much more appealing. I think i have already been to the one in Oudenaarde on uur first ride here, very friendly staff.

If we decide to go. Should we come early, super early or would it be possible to drop by a little while before the transmission starts? I assume some belgian channel will transmit almost the entire thing?

Around 2PM will be fine, I haven't checked but these days with Boonen mania they tend to start as early as 1-1.30PM
