Does the new 2012 Sram Red BB30 compact crankset build in the same as the "old" model or can you swap these two cranksets in and out a frame without problems and front gear adjustment.

Does the new 2012 crankset work flawlessly with the "old" steel cage front derailleur?

new cranks have the Yaw chainrings which have different spacing.

There is a list of what works and what does not from SRAM and this is showing not to be compatible. If you do try this I would guarantee that if you switch back and forth then you would have to adjust the FD each time.

The spacing is different, so if you change cranks, you will need to adjust cable tension and limits.

So it is better then to use two "old" Sram red cranksets if I want to swap without FD adjustments between 50/34 for the mountains and 50/38 for flat terrain. :?:

Yes, and you can get old Reds on closeout for under $300 USD. Seems like a no-brainer.

Why don't you just switch the chain ring? It's cheaper, and easier to do. You also shouldn't have to play with your derailleur..

This, or change your cassette. 5 min job.

Yeah... or even easier, just have an extra rear wheel with different cassette. Seems really silly to be swapping cranksets out because one day you're riding up a hill the the next day flat roads.

Constantly removing and reinstalling cranksets will wear them out much faster and you will get play.
