I haven’t ridden cross for a few years now but thought I might give it another lash in 2011-12. Apart from the TRP cantis and the Fibre-Lyte chainring, this machine was put together with a budget in mind mostly using ebay plus bits from my "stash" and I must say I’m pretty pleased with the outcome. The frame is a FM058 from Chinese ebay seller Carbonzone and the bike weighs 7.67kgs (16.9lbs) as pictured. Decided to go the clincher route since I don’t ride that many races and to be honest tubs would probably make little difference to my back-of-pack performances! I built the wheels myself using Rotaz hubs, again bought on ebay from a Chinese seller. Some photos and build list below:

Frame: FM058 1224

Wow. A very nice build and great photos - is that your own studio?

Have you ridden the bike in anger yet? Where are the stickers from?

Thanks Guy - in a former life I worked as a snapper so I still have most of the gear! Had a bit of a run on the bike yesterday and it performed really well, unlike my legs... Have a bit of a head cold at present but if I can shake it off I'll try a race next Sunday.

The stickers come from a Brazilian guy called Marco Pollo who can be contacted at copollo@bol.com.br He has a blogspot where you can see many more designs but I can't remember the name. However if you root around on the RBK Chinese frame and ebay threads you'll find the blogspot is mentioned fairly frequently. The stickers are reasonably cheap, usually around $40.

Cheers. I'm building a Chinese road frame and don't want the bare look.

I might have to investigate these cross frames too. Remember to report back after your first race.

For the front derailleur:
Is that an up-pull edition? Or is there a wheel on the seattube that I'm not seeing?

prendrefeu-

looks like there's a top-pull adapter on the FD

No, jcconnox is correct, it's a top pull adapter called the Umlenker manufactured by the German company Speen. See speen.de This year they appear to be standard issue on all the Blue cross bikes. I've read mixed reviews on the effectiveness of the Umlenker but I've had no problems with mine thus far. At only 7g and less than 20 Euro shipped it's worth a try.

Very Nice Build indeed. How does the bike handle? Also could you snap a photo of the chain stay clearance? I have an alu caad9x that i bought used and for next season i am looking into getting one of these. Handling and good geometry is really the most important thing for a cross bike so that is my biggest concern. I have a chinese frame for my road bike so i know that the quality is there.
