Which cables are the best?

Can someone sugest me some lightweight and great working inner and/or outer, shifter and/or brake cables. Are XTR cables good?

Gore RideOn works great for me. IF you install them in the correct way. The only drawbacks are weight and durability. They are not the lightest, but that is a question of a few grams. It depends on your "weight weenie" factor if you find that a problem
The other drawback is that they have worn out within one year of extensive use. Up to a certain point they work absolutely friction-free, but at that point they almost jam. Relubing like one would do with ordinary cables is no option, so you have to buy a new set...

With cables, I would go for friction-free function and good resistance to dirt, thereby putting weight lower on the priority list.

I second that. I've had 3 or 4 different low friction cables systems and the Gore RideOn cables are by far the slipperiest. They are more expensive and they are hard to install though.

I heard that Nokon cables should be really light and very durable... they r a bit expensive though!

I am installing the Nokon cables on my bike right now. They are light, But I don't think they are really durable. What I mean is that the outside housing is made up of short alua. (light) segments that fit together end to end. They can pivot on each other because of a ball and socket on thier ends. The linner goes through these and the cable goes through the linner. You could kink the whole thing easier than a conventional cable though in my opinion.
The inner cable with the Nokon is not as slippery as the Gore RideOn. The Gore RideOn is the slipperiest by far. Maybe they have a patent on this or something. So I'm using the Gore inner cables and the Gore linners with the Nokon outter housing. I think I'm getting the best of both of them this way. And yes it is expensive.

The Nokons don't have a real problem with kinking as the are so flexable that they just deflect and twist out of the way. When the cable is tensioned they cant twist very far anyway. After instaling them on my dual sus MtB I was very impressed wtih how little they got caught on due to their springiness. I like the idea of running them with the Gore inners and liners.

You're right Cyco. I haven't seen them in action out in the woods. I had a hard time when installing them. The plastic liner wanted to kink before I got the inner cable through it, so they were not complete yet.

The ease of kinking the liner on instalation is something that can be avoided with care and attention - very difficult to mantain as these take more work and are more time consuming during instalation. I found that to get the string started, gluing the first bead (shifter end) to the liner made the whole instalation process a lot easier

Emails I've received from bike shops tell me NOKONs are much lighter than say Dura Ace--I'm assuming the weights are uncut. The last cable I 'm waiting for infor is Gore Ride-On ULTRA lights. A friend of mine rides tham although he was unable to give me a pre-cut weight on them. Although he knows they are pretty light. NOKONs or GORE ULTRA LIGHTS, two of the lightest known to me at this point in time.

I'm waiting for my Nokon cable too ! Your bike is very nice Tib !!! What is your frame brand ? ...I'm not sure but it seems that there is a "LP" logo... I don't know this weird brand !

I started this discussion and now I have bought Nokon Konkavek cables.

I haven't tried them jet but I already understand why they are the best!
