How much can you sand down carbon before it becomes unsafe. I have sanded down a few parts, seat, seatpost etc but only as far as removing the clearcoat and decals and paint. Some WW seem to shave parts down further to lose weight. Just how far can you go and how do you know when to stop ?

A lot of it is trial and error. You have to be willing to accept failure.

If you are removing just the outer resin layer, you'll usually have little effect on strength, as soon as you uncover the fibres you'll start to affect it.
