That sounds pretty good to me.

I would recommend either of Shimano or Campagnolo hubsets with the Sapim spokes. I would also recommend 32's for the ultimate do-everything wheel set. Interestingly, most of the wheel sets that I have in my collection from the Teams used for the Northern Classics use either CX, CX-Rays, or a combination of both. I recently received a set of old Mapei Northern Classics wheels built with double-butted spokes, which is interesting.

Not lightweight, but I love my wheels that forum member ergott built for me using Ambrosio Nemesis rims, Dura Ace 7800 hubs, Sapim Race spokes (32 front and rear) and brass nipples:

This set came in at 1,810g. The rims were 464g each, the hubs were 392g. If you used the Crono F20 rims and lighter spokes / aluminum nipples, you should be able to shed 300g or so.

Yup. That is a basic 'Northern Classics' build as used by most of the Teams and one of my favorites. You can choose the Sapim CX or CX-Rays (or a combination), too.

Couple of pairs of aluminum singles wheels I still have...

Mavic Mach 2 CD 2 rims in 36 hole I picked up for $50...3 cross, straight gauge spokes, heavy but bomb proof!

And some FIR's with DT hubs that I haven't ridden yet but had for about 6 or more years...

I love hand made wheels... :)

I used the 299 model cause suggested to be for heavier riders (althought Im sort of light) and I didnt want to risk with a flexy pair of wheels.
If I remember correctly the rims were around 305 gramms each.
