This one goes out to all you nice people training with a PM. I guess a lot of you do a powerprofile test every now and then to track performance. 5 sec, 1 minute, 5 minute and FTP values, and then finding W/kg. So what is everyone at, and at what level of racing?

I'll start with mine.
5 sec: 14,49 W/kg
1 min: 6,25 W/kg
5 min: 4,32 W/kg
FTP: 3,16 W/kg

My FTP was tested on a course that featured a descent and some twisty corners - not really the best.

5s - 16
1 min - 7.5
5 min - 5.25
20 min- 4.59
FTP - 4.375 (proven)

My first full year racing. I race the equivalent of Cat 5 (from Ontario).

You race cat 5 with those numbers?!? Wow, I'd hate to see what sort of numbers the cat 1's in your area pump out!

4.88W/kg FTP and 5.14W/kg 20 min power. I never look at other value so much. These are the duration I test for and train for. I race equivalent of cat3 in Canada but will be racing cat1 next year.

5s - 17.5
1min - 10.6
5min - 5.9
20min - 4.9

Somewhere between A and B Grade at the moment. Probably just need a dose of confidence to race A properly.

5s - 17.74
1min - 10.48
5min - 5.96
20min - 4.8
FTP - 4.5

171cm @ 62kg
I have an uphill punch to hang with A/B grade but my FTP lets me down.
Am kind of stuck at the moment - need to find a way to break this barrier and get it up to my 20min power. Frustrating sometimes, especially as if I don't work it often (as in once a week, then it easily drops back to 4.3 - 4.4

Well a few things:

1) I live in a very flat area, where w/kg is not much of a factor. Being approx. 140lbs, you have to build the power in order to stay with the bigger guys
2) I raced very stupidly this year, hence why I'm still in the lower category
3) I raced cat 3 in the states for a few races (I was allowed to self select category), and felt like I was giving it my all just to finish in top 1/3.

Racing as a domestic Pro here in the USA. Most national races this year I finished top 10-15 with a couple top 5s mixed in. Locally (Utah) won quite a few races.

5s 19 w/kg
1m 8.98 w/kg
5m 6.9 w/kg
20m 5.8 w/kg
FTP 5.6 w/kg
Weight was 68-69 kilo during the season

These are values from races and training where I had my SRM. Most team races I didn't have the opportunity to use it due to sponsorship.

These type of threads are extremely interesting to my geeky side

Even more interresting when a domestic pro contributes.

Thanks much!

Has anyone been able to change their profile significantly? As in from a sprinter to a TT or the like?
My personal experience so far seems to be that the profile remains the same and improvements move the whole lot up or down. So my pursuiter type of profile stays in that inverted V shape, even though my main focus for the last 2 years has been FTP.

I'm curious as to if posters obtained these numbers during testing/training, or during races.

I'm interested mostly in race numbers as I find that many people either put out less than they test or more than they test, but rarely spot on (which reveals interesting details about their testing procedures and how they can actually dole out efforts during a race as opposed to a rested state during training).

Good question. I always find I put out higher numbers racing for longer periods of time (greater than 20 mins), but always put out higher numbers when testing for shorter periods of time (especially the 5 mins or less)

Example: sprint workouts I am capable of holding greater than 20 w/kg for 5s many times repeated, but have never gone over 18.5 racing. I chalk it up to be tired and having poor form after 140 km...

The psychological factors re: training vs racing are well researched. Even training against the person next to you (if you make it a "race") will yield better results, usually.

Now, all I need to do us find someone to "race" so I can put my figures up...
