Tune Mag 170 vs Alchemy Orc
Moderator: robbosmans
The only reason to go for a Tune hub over an Alchemy is weight. I chose Alchemy over Tune. In my view if there is one thing on a bike where strength and durability are more important than weight it's wheels.
If you wanted a super light (under 1000gms) low profile specialist climbing wheel you will have to go for something like Tune. If you want a wheel for regular use or a high profile wheel go Alchemy. It's a no brainer. Alchemy are designed to be ultra water resistant too. You can whack them through rainy conditions with no problems at all.

My question to heavy owners would be have you developed any serious play in the barings since owning/building up a rear using either hub?
Specialized Allez 06' "Rain Bike" 21.50lbs
Neuvation F100 11' "Road Bike" 16.80lbs
Specialized Tarmac Pro 11' "WW Bike" 14.25lbs

Just pull it off. It's not threaded it's just press fit.

The 170 replaced the 180 and surprisingly even though it got lighter it got better in quite a few ways. The biggest is that we've not seen nor heard of a single case of the creaking issue that some of the 180 hubs suffered from.

thank you, but it is too tight for me to do it by hand....
I put it close to my ear and turn the freewheel very very slowly, the engagement sound of MAG170 is just a single "tat" instead of MAG 180's "tat" "tat" "tat"....
I believe the engagement of MAG170 will be better.
btw, my solution to MAG180's creaking issue
not sure is it work for all, but it works for mine
Pawl filing fixed my MAG180.
