small ride report....
i've only done 30 odd km's on the parlee so far so i won't say too much.. and the morning ride showed up my lack of re torquing the head set after my 1.30am test ride or checking that the brake pads were done up tight ( dam Chinny and his silly ax-lightness fork wasting 3 hours of my build time )...
as the ride was straight up into the hills ( read false flats.. ) of watsons bay the slightly loose head set ( very slightly ) didn't make it's self apparent until i got on the brakes for the round about at the bottom at 60kph.. mild shuddering and not quite the bite i normally get ( see not really tight enough brake pads ) so from then on all descending was done gingerly with lots of rear brake..
the stand outs right now about the bike are how good the saddle has turned out, the increased damping of the ride over shitty roads, how smooth the campag CULT ceramic bearings in the cranks feel, the nimble-ness that having 2cm less wheel base brings to the table and how effortlessly it accelerates up a hill out of the saddle.. it's a much better climber than i am...
i hear they are great down a hill to which i can't wait to put too the test... i feel though i wont be disappointed at all as while 'gingerly' descending behind the engineer this morning ( who does not lack balls or bike handling skills ) i was able to hold his wheel with ease..
i'll give it a few hundred km's and try and get an akuna bay run in before giving an in depth appraisal
it's my first full carbon bike and i don't think i built a shit one..
ps owl
i love my extralite wheels.. they are soo bloody fast and light it's crazy..
pros..
fast, spin up real fast and hold speed very well, higher spoke count and soft rims means they don't feel too harsh, front wheel has a ton of lateral stiffness.
cons..
you got too adjust the bearing tension once a month in the back every few in the front, the rear is a little flexy out of the saddle ( i could lose 7 kgs though and am on the wrong side of 85kgs, extralite had some quality control issues with mine the lock tight used was shit and the non drive side spokes unwound them selves.. 2 solutions.. re locktight the spokes ( what i did ) or just get them built by fairwheel bikes. also the joins on the stans rims are very heavy so the wheels are not well balanced, which i haven't noticed while using them at speeds of up to 90kph so far.. i plan on balancing them and have worked out the rear needs around 14g added to the valve stem area. i bet i will notice the difference once they are balanced..
over all i think they are shit hot!! one of my buddys got a set from fair wheel and he loves em..
as far as tubeless goes i have no idea or interest right now given i'm running a 208g front tire and tube combo, tubeless cannot compete with that kind of weight..

Haha I think I was gram chasing a bit harder with my build..
Should hit sub 5.8 with new stem and a bit of tweaking!

do you leave it locked up on the street unattended?

Haha no that was post ride at a cafe..
with the garmin 800, mounts and sensor kit.. +dog fang chain catcher ( which now has an alloy bolt and i might drill some holes in.. )
pretty impressed with this as the 800 is a heavy bit of kit..
no out door shots yet
things to finish the build....
extralite OS stem ( big weight drop), cut steerer tube and ditch a few spaces, ti bolt kit for the speedplays, Token TK2341 skewers and remove the rear tire and change the normal ( heavy ) rim tape over to some stans no tube tape ( light ) and trim the brake cables down a bit..
that should save around 90-100g..

got some out door shots today and i got to really take the parlee for a good spin today and to check out it's descending manners on an 11km rolling descent
what a crazy little weapon of a bike...
any time you got the legs to throw it down it's already 2 bike lengths in front of you, it's ability to accelerate is staggering!
one negative i did encounter was on the descent into akuna bay, the road is kind of rough chip seal and a bit bumpy. the bumps were fine but the rough road surface made the whole bike vibrate all the was down the hill. the faster i went the less buzzy it felt but the serotta really felt a whole lot nicer over this rather poor road surface than the parlee..
then there is the roll down to church point..... OMG this thing is like flying a laser guided missile, it is soo fast, sharp and stable through corners at crazy speeds it totally blew me away! if it was any sharper and more precise you could preform surgery with it!!
it was a totally epic day for a ride too.. empty roads in the national park on mostly amazing roads, 14 degrees air temp with lots of warm sun
have a couple of things in the post including the very attractive extralite stem,a set of token carbon/ti skewers in red and black and final fit and removal of the ugly spacer stack next week
i will also get it into marcus's work studio for some bike porn photos
