i decided i needed a black saddle for my up coming Z5 build

so instead of buying a full carbon saddle i thought i'd try my hand at the saddle strip

after removing the cover and padding i used citrus cleaner and my fingers to remove the glue
i was thinking about getting the saddle flexy clear coated but i'm pretty happy with the carbon finish..
still might get the clear coat

NICE WORK ! I Have the slr w/o the cut-out and I did same exact procedure a few months ago-i used fine sanding paper to take the glue and make it smooth .HAve to clear coated it cos it would look more shiny -i was just lazy to go to the hardware store..BUT after 50-60 miles it starts hurting a LITTLE bit down there ,although for that first portion of 50-60 mile is even more comfortable you will find out.IT feels harder in the first few ride butafter those rides MAGIC happens and is just perfect ,better Than before !....and after 60 or so miles start to hurt just a little bit even when i wear very good padded shorts..

I'm getting a cheap second hand one off eBay to see how far the weight loss can be taken, there is a lot of rasied sections under the saddle that could be removed and a rim round it..

As far as clear coating Take it to a car body shop and get it clear gel coated. I'm going to give mine to a friend who is very good with this kind of thing to
finish

That shell is injected plastic with very chopped up carbon fibre in it and it will need a very special clear coat (not the regular types that can be used with epoxy/woven carbon)

I was thinking automotive flexy clear coat.. It looks pretty good with out a clear coat cause it has a little shine to it already

That is very cool!

I've been using my stripped SLR on my day-to-day bike for around a year now -- no issues -- as comfortable as it was before, from what I can tell. I won't say it's as good as a broken-in vintage Brooks (which I've never ridden), but fine fo me on 100 mile rides including dirt.

Did 35km this morning, saddle wasnt much different from the padded one..
You can feel it a bit more over sharp bumps..
Doing a 50km hills session in the morning
So far so good

Had mine a while. Has been comfortable and trouble free. The clearcoat is starting to look a bit shabby now but will rub it back a give it another coat.

Is that clear gonna bond? Painting flexible plastics usually requires a few more steps than just shooting clear.

Hahah the clear coat(s) used is a $500 p/lt 2 PAC and my friend who we call the engineer knows what he's doing a whole lot more than you or I!!
He and his work mates seem to think it will be totally fine.
He didn't bother polishing the saddle after it was painted because he reckons my arse will do a fabulous job of that..
It looks a million dollars and is totally the center peice of my new z5 build!
