Hi,
thanks everybody for the valuable information.
Made me try to repair my dear conti comp, done most of the job OK.
Now for bonding the basetape, is copydex(or latex glue) the only way or I can get away with my vittoria rim glue?

You can be you should not.

If you can get hold of Copydex use that, if not Jevelot or any other liquid latex which can often be found at art shops.

Ciao, ;)

Hey fellow tub peoples...

Liquid latex: where to get it stateside?

Every hardware store or art supply place I walk into just looks at me strangely when I ask about it. Is it known by any other name perhaps?

I got some tires with plenty of tread but tired sidewalls that could use some love...

Well, I was trying not to name names, but yes, that does come up on the first link with my proposed googling.

Hi,

Is there any difference between Jevelot and ordinary liquid latex you guys know of?

Just wondering...

TIA, ;)

sorry if I missed it, 11 pages has me a bit cross eyed.

How do you fix or fill the cut in the tire? I've patched several, but the cut always seems to collect debris. My latest one is holding fine but after my last ride I inspected the cut and it had several sharp pebbles imbeded in it. I've learned to patch the casing from the inside with a piece of nylon or other strong fabric, but I worry even this is no match for a pebble stuck in the cut and a long ride.

I've tried to just use mastik in the cut but it never holds. I though maybe superglue but don't think that will be any better.

Thoughts?

Zap-A-Gap was recommended on p. 8 viewtopic.php?f=3&t=70013&p=692013#p692013

Unfortunately, tread cuts cannot be easily dealt with. I have tried 'Shoe-Goo' that I use on my hard-court shoes. It works ok, but has to be re-applied quite regularly. On small cuts, it is as close as you will get to a permanent solution. Other than that, I have found no better options.

Loctite's Superglue Flex Gel Max contains rubber and works fine.

I guess you're on Vittoria or similar tubs? Try Veloflex, they don't pick up flints at all. 8)

Actually it's a Veloflex Carbon. I think the cut was made by glass or metal since I was in beautiful Downtown Detroit when it happened. I picked up the sharp rocks on a ride after I had repaired the tube.

FYI...I tried emailing these guys about repairing Vittoria Corsa CX 3210 TPI with the removable valves...never got a response...maybe they aren't in business although the website is still up.
