Some details here

Not sure about the spoke lacing into the rim...

Frankly, they look scary!

Cutting such amounts of carbon fibre from the rim section undoubtedly causes high stress points.
They aren't even that light too.

Best news is that they are both sram/shimano and campy compatible though. That alone should sell them plenty of units, if it works.

at least put something to cover the hole

They are moulded into the rim, not cut out.

I think if i had these I would have to cover up the slots...

So the nipples for the front and NDS rear wheel are hidden in the hub; I assume accessable and hidden behind the dust cover/seal?

I think it sounds like an interesting design, but as others said, they should cover the spoke insertion holes on the rims.

I'm no expert on aerodynamics, but it seems to me that such holes would not be helpful.

Will we get 'whistling' wheels in the process ??

The article states, "In terms of weight, the Mercurio Ltd 60 wheelset (with 60mm deep rims) comes in at under 1,400g, which is up there (or down there, depending on how you look at it) with the best."

Zipp 404 and Hed Stinger 6's, both 60 mm deep rims, reportedly weigh 1,278 grams and 1,330 grams, respectively. The 3t wheels sound a little portly at around 1,400 grams. Heck, the Zipp carbon clincher (1,557 grams) is only about 150 grams more than the 3t. And I have heard that truing a wheel with nipples at the hub can be time consuming/frustrating because you have to keep changing the hand you hold to the spoke wrench to get at the opposite side spokes. Lastly, the slots in the rim just don't cut it aesthetically. Well, that's my $0.02.

That rear hub looks an awful lot like the old Cane Creek Aros rear hub...

Image

Although Cane Creek stopped making them a few years ago, they were pretty tough wheels, IIRC.

Just to give credit where credit is due, Cane Creek bought CHRONOMETRO who had the patent on the spoking design or hub design or whatever.

And, yes, aside from occasional rim problems, the wheels were bomber...

it would make life so much easier for everyone if that freehub spline became general.
