Hello all, hope your all well

I am looking into getting a Cervelo R5 and basically have a few queries that i have not been able to find the answers for using the search facility. As you all know the R5 is bbright and comes equipped Rotor cranks, my queries are:

Firstly is it possible to run a Sram Red crank in the bbright equipped R5's

Secondly if it is possible is it the gxp or the bb30 Sram Red crank i would need

The reason i ask is that i was going to go for the black and yellow R5 and fit Tour Edition Sram Red. Other ideas for the build are Zipp 404, 3t Ltd bar and stem, Look Keo Blade Ti and Selle italia Kit Carbonio. Any help much appreciated.

First of all, awesome build. You should have no problem using a bb30 red crank with bbright. Just make sure you follow the installation instructions. Should be a lot of fun, enjoy.

You cannot run a BB30 crank on BBRight without modifications to the crank itself. I believe that SRAM makes an S900 or similar BBRight compatible crank. You could run a gxp crank with an adapter sleeve.

I would appreciate if you could give us more details. I'm hearing contradictory comments on Sram Red and BBright.
Some say only GXP will work and you say that you have a good success with BB30, it's a bit confusing.
Did you have any experience with R5 and Red BB30? The idea of using Red BB30 is really tempting due the lower weigh compared to GXP, but would it really work?
What bb cups should be used to make it working? Can I use these ones supplied by Cervelo?

My 2011 Cervelo R5

No BB30 cranks will run in a bbright bottom bracket shell. Both are designed around a 30mm spindle diameter but the BB30 cranks are designed for a frame with a 68mm BB shell width whereas BBright has a 79mm BB shell width. You could run the SRAM GXP which is designed for a 86mm BB shell width with a 24mm spindle diameter.

In this case your quite wrong. U can run either a BB30 or GXP red crank (with adaptor) on a BBright R5 or S5.

I personally rather use a BB30 crank as then u don't need to add the GXP adaptor....

To install the SRAM red BB30 crank take the ring pretensioner assembly off the non drive side and use the 11mm collar on the drive side. Depending on your frame u may need to run 1 to 4mm of further spacers on the drive side to get your chain line right.... Use the wavy washer on the NDS.

Do you know, whether I can use bb cups supplied with R5 for this operation? The collar, it's something that has to be sourced additionally to bb cups/bearings and crankset?

Thats a SRAM S975 crank (or maybe an S9XX) not a SRAM Red BB30 crank. The S975 has a longer than normal BB30 spindle which makes it compatible with BBRight. I am pretty sure the SRAM Red BB30 crank is not long enough. Its not listed on the official page at least: http://www.bbright.net/supportingbrands.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
