I currently ride a Gary Fisher SuperCaliber (26") frame in size small. Without the paint, it weights exactly 3.0 pounds, weighed on a digital industrial scale. Does anyone know of any frame that is lighter, without being too fragile? I only ride XC and weigh 140, so I can go fairly light without issues. Thanks 8)

How about a Ghost HTX Scandium frame?
Good price, lightweight and durable (I ride mine since nearly two years now).

I consider that very good frames are made by Fastrak (or Fastrax, I don't remember). That's the company that builds frames for Scott. As Scott is very, very popular and famous brand I think that these frames can't be bad. They are made from Scandium and they are durable, but there's nothing bad in that because they don't broke (in parts). I have one Scandium frame and it's realy easy to make a "hole" in it, but it don't broke trough all the holes. And I have one Scott Team Racing frame which is heavy and isn't made from scandium and I don't like it.
My friend had a Magnesium frame wich broke after one crash, that's all!

And there are more, even very strong frames - they often are made from Titanium, but I don't know one that is lighter than 2.8(9) lbs.

There's lots of choice in frames weighing less than 2.9 lbs, f.e:

Giant MCM team
Scott team issue
Principia MSL pro
Extralite RC-1
FRM scandium
Schwinn Homegrown Pro limited
Merida Magnesium
Rocky Mountain Vertex SC
