Hey guys, some awesome bikes on here!

Mine is on the lower end of the budgets, but its my favorite one so far!

I bought some chinese carbon clinchers from our very own "jhpbk". He sourced all the components from different companies, and created the lightest 50mm chinese carbon clinchers I have ever seen. At 1255grams, hey are lighter than the Reynolds assault, which is the closest one in comparison of price. They are also lighter than the Zipp 404's and the ENVE 45's. Im stoked needless to say!

He sourced all of the parts from his personal sources, built them, and sent them to me over to the US. Nothing but awesome things to say about Josh, he's a great guy and admirably honest. He also keeps you up to date the entire way.

PM him if you are interested in getting wheels I suppose! You will be happy!

Anyways, here are some pictures of the wheels, and my bike.

Here are the different angles and how the carbon looks beneath the light coat of matte black. I love how it changes the look with the way the light hits them.

Nice wheels!

How do they ride? Are the hubs quiet when coasting or loud?

Any issues/concerns about heat build-up when braking?

Thanks man. They ride great, I put some veloflex corsas on them so its a MUCH better ride than I had stock. Im not worried about heat build up, I live in florida so the only hills I go down are overpasses. SO far they brake slightly worse than stock, but I believe the pads need time to bed-in, as do the wheels. They seem to brake better with time, so I should know more on that soon.

Overall Im very happy with them so far, I saved almost 2 lbs with them, the tires, tubes, and skewers, so its a great start to lightening my bike.

Wow!

How much did the wheels cost you if you don't mind me asking?

You should email josh and ask him, his email is joshua.hand (at) ntlworld (dot) com. They were $700 plus shipping, but you should ask him to see what he currently has available.

I emailed him out of the blue since I saw his <1000g budget wheel build, and he agreed to make me a set with his sourced parts.

Awesome.

Thanks for sharing the price and email.

I'll definitely give him a shout when I have the cash to get new wheels.

Nice. I would also be interested in learning how long you have been riding these wheels and how they are holding up.

Afternoon..

Firstly, Logan thank you for the kind words. I'm really glad your happy with the wheels. And I must admit, I was surprised with the final weight, especially for 50mm clinchers.

I have been riding a set of 38mm carbon clinchers, in exactly the same design. For around 3 months now, and not had a single problem. The tyres fit nicely into the rims without to much work, the hubs run very smoothly. And they are super strong.
I am taking a pair out to Majorca in March, to get some good hilly miles in, so that will be a test on the braking.

For the people that have emailed me, and said they might be interested -
The rims are 50mm carbon clincher, foam filled. Onto a unbranded 257gram hub set (these are similar to the hubs you can find on ebay, but lighter). Then they are laced with DT Swiss Revolution Spokes.
Build up to somewhere between 1250g and 1280g depending on the lacing.

I know that WW isn't a place to do any trade posts, so i hope this doesn't brake any of the rules,
I didnt realise they would be quite so popular :D

Cheers
Josh..

Cool wheelset!
The hubs does look exactly the same is my "Dati" hubs, do you know the weight of your pair?
And what's the weight of the wheelset?

My hubs:

Steen..

The ones i use come in at 257 grams for the pair.
They are indeed the Dati hubs. But i get them without the Dati branding on them.

What weight do the Dati hubs that you have got come in at?

Josh..

My Dati hubs came at 198 for the rear hub and 67 for the front, but that was on a park tool scale and i think he weight too heavy.
But never mind, with my 38mm carbon rims of 334/340 gram. is the set going to between the 1140 and 1150 gram :)

The UD carbon of those wheels looks cool by the way!

My fitter adjusted them that way. To adjust the shifters, he moved the whole bar, instead of moving only the shifters. Lazy?

I agree, it does look somewhat odd. Maybe I'll change it eventually.

I've been trying to figure out how the wheels got to be so light. My calculations aren't coming out as I had expected. For the 50mm carbon clinchers, their listed at ~480gm each. Below is my estimated weight for a wheel set I am building with a 20/24 setup.

50mm carbon clinchers: 960g
Hubs: 277g (Bitex 66-front 211-rear)
DT Revolution Spokes: 198g (~4.5g/each)
Nipples: 44g (1g/each)
Total Weight: 1479g

Where did the other 224g go???
