This is turning into costweenies again. If you can afford the frame and want one then go for it. If you would rather save some money and get slightly heavier stuff that's cool too. It's nice to know the price of things but this forum is about weightsaving and bling. :beerchug:

+1. It is not about the cost. This frame offers a great prospect to get below 4kg with "rideable" parts and that is exciting me the most. It has almost been 3 years' wait since my Storck 0.7IS which broke 5kg with "standard" weenie parts to now something that can break the 4kg barrier. This is what I am chasing (as with other weenies I am sure).

I am eager to compare this frame with other "production" uberlights in the same weight genre that can get me to that goal. Cost is secondary in this pursuit. However, it has to be light yet rideable (read as durable) - no point in getting to sub-4kg (I can get there right now) but by using non-industry durability tested components and frames. As one manufacturer told me , "we are are playing with water here...".

I don't think about cost much, but when things are this different from lost of other top end product, I have to think about other claims.

Guru could have made so much better an impression and nobody would have said anything but "nice job" had they not claimed a world championship weight figure and then given themselves a trophy ahead of product hitting the street and public scales.

Hit a nice mark, great.
Miss a heavily hyped number and it's horrible (even when the number is still pretty damn good).


This one is claimed significantly lighter.

Ax make good stuff and have a hell of a shop and they're not far away from EFBE, so zero reason this bike shouldn't come to market fully and independently tested (rather than in house suggestions) and make weight (on more than in house scales).


I'm staying tuned in.

well, with the euro at ~$1.26 right now, 4000EUR translates out to a little over 5 grand USD, no more than any other high-end frame. I'm really pleased with AX' new offerings, first bringing out those new rims that are lighter and look better than anything else in the price range, now there's this frame that allows us to keep it ultra light without looking like triathletes.

Is it just me or does it look like there is a void in the carbon on the inside of the forks?
Could just be the way the light is catching the forks but looks a bit questionable.

fettling---that is how these forks look and picture. I have had one (Seriel #0019) for sometime and am very pleased with it. But i know what you mean by "looks" as my pictures show that same "voids"

I am too very excited about the new AX frame and crank--can't wait to complete the AX monopoly.

btw--what else would you think AX could make as in bike parts?? rest of the drivetrain?? hubs?

So you've seen field reports of AX frame failures? Or long-term reliability data from Guru components?

AX components are "lightness over everything else." Obviously you're going to be pushing limits with that approach. In the field, subject to sufficient abuse (the many grades of JRA), I'm sure any lightweight C frame can fail.

For bikes and components, if you are within the maximum rider weight, what is considered abuse? Normal riding should not result in a failure of any product I would hope...even if it is the lightest of such component.

Anyhow- Fact is that f.i. Ax seatposts are all rated for MTB and road, their cranks and this
particular frame have a 110kg rider limit. Other überlight offerings from the
fatherland such as the Schmolke TLO bars are actually stronger than the slightly
heavier models in their range, etc, etc.
Ax is not low weight at any cost by any means. Did you watch the LeMans 24hr race?
Those Audis have a lot of Ax carbon on board...

Personally, I always look at the cost vs the benefit, and check out the cost/gram ratio to make sure it's actually worth spending that much money to save a few grams.

I'm not a fan of the green-ish frame look, but I'm sure they'll have other options. The AX Alpha will be quite interesting. Combined with AX Lightness parts, it's going to be extremely light at the bottom line.

Hi guys, as this is WW, I was actually trying to figure out the production weight 771g (size 56) in the facebook link vs weight indicated at the start of this thread (580g size=?). Anybody else has actual weighs of other production Alphas?

my Ax frame will not be painted or clear coated or declaed like my Parle Z1SL frame-(as Nils knows) so will be interesting to see the weight on this frame. I don' think true orders have been taken but Nils knows when orders are ready he will contact me. My tt will be 54.5ish so (medium size frame)
