anyone here know anything on this hub, first hand? pretty heavy at 1700 - 1825 grams. is the hub considered rotating weight?

O2 Bikers (Belgian mtb magazine) once did a test with this hub but that's a pretty long time ago. I do not have the issue here with me but i remeber they said the hub has a lot of internal friction and yes the weight is rotational weight i guess. Advantage is that the chain reaches a higher mileage.

There are a lot locals around here who ride a Rohloff.

The planetary gearing needs a relatively long running-in time (at least 1000 km), but afterwards internal friction is nearly on par with normal derailleur shifting.
It's also much more resistant against mud than a normal derailleur setup.

Rotational weight is of course higher, so it's not a choice for XC racers.
Compared to a normal wheel you also feel the additional weight on the rear.

But if you ride rougher, do many miles or want a low-maintenance setup it's really unbeatable:
no more shifting problems, no more adjusting and a chain usually lasts about 4000 km.
The only regular maintenance Rohloff recommends is an oil change every 5000 km or per year.

i was thinking of buying a 24" cruiser bike with this hub. they usually dont have gears, so i dont know if this hub would fit on. but its a good idea.

Rotational weight isn't really an issue with hubs owing to the low diameter in question.

Heavy is still heavy but won't have the same multiplied effect as a heavy rim or tyre.

their with is 135 mm. does that fit in the bike?

i would have to find out, but standard bike co. does custom frames, so i would see if they can do something for me. this is very intresting. a little heavy but intresting.
