What? You mean because he doesn't have overshoes?

Nah. He probably just likes to adjust his shoes as he goes... I used to do the same.

i am not aware of figures which tell you how many seconds per km saved etc, but I can imagine that the psychological effect of "feeling" fast is enormous - and that would definitely be helped by overshoes

a little surprised he's not wearing them to be honest....

Yup. I've done it when it has been really hot. Comfort is still pretty important. How else would you explain why he has the 'spider' adjusters in the 'open' position?

find that a wee bit odd....

true that comfort is very important to performance but something like that - assuming your shoes fit properly - should be minor. changing position to rest your butt or crotch I can understand but shoes???

Yeah....that is something I haven't EVER could measure in my training/racing.

Lycra ones are just for look, rubber ones MAY save some wei....time.

is this something you can measure yourself?
I heard using no inner ring should save you about 3 sec. in a 40k tt ridden at a specific speed (50km/h?) Maybe you could do some theoretical math or measure a tiny difference in a windtunneltest, but even on a track with SRM I doubt you would see any difference in data.
I'm not sure how much overshoes do save, but I know that for speedskating there are special overshoes (different fabrics) to match the bodysuit that save quite some time.

Seems to me that though many of the aero drag reductions possible would separately not be much, but all of them added up could be significant at TT race levels.

Maybe The Floyd just didn't really care about winning the D-L TT enough to put on overshoes. It is a training race for a lot of the TDF contenders.
