What is the lightest disc wheelset for mtb? don't comment on durability - I'm just curisous. Remember reading about Ole from Norway was planing a sub 1200 grams wheelset.

Sub 1200g? Maybe you should aim for a sub 1000g wheelset nowadays.... Something like tune prince/princess, ztr race and ti spokes... Not sub 1000g, but close at sub 1100g...

If you use these rims from Innolite 250 gram carbon, with 28 spokes, you should be able to almost go sub 1000 gram. :D

Not good for real biking I think but light.

Cheaper than the DT carbon rims too!

I'd think those with some Prince/Princess, or maybe Ultrahubs and ti spokes. Be crazy flexy mind!

They do some crazy stuff on that website! 36g disc rotors for <€70?! Their Prince/Princess/Aerolite wheels are 1059g the pair, and should be rideable, if the rims are any good.

I think Ole got very close to 1kg didn't he ? Within 83 grams or something i remember.

There's those Mavic Carbon hush hush wheels which are apparently sub 1kg - but good luck getting a set. Your going to need something like Ti spokes, very very light hubs and an expensive rim so your options are those carbon ones or the Stan 7000 Race ones. I think Ole even resorted to using full ceramic bearing in the hubs to drop more grams - but there about £50 EACH and you'd need 4-6.

Have fun :beerchug:

Yeah; edge made a nice pair of TUBULARS. Cool if you only ever want to have two tires to choose from and are fully supported on race courses made of marshmallows! Sorry, that came out a little angry.

But I think that the sub 1200g boundary is pretty easy to reach for 26". I built the GF a set of King classic (non-disc) hubs to ZTR 355s with 32 Pillar Ti spokes and it came in at like 1270.With hubs that arent really that light I was pleasantly suprised.

Stans is selling their new fully-built disc wheelset for a pretty good price: http://www.notubes.com/product_info.php ... cts_id/406

1210g for a fully built wheelset at $950 aint bad. I sold a pair to one of our customers who didnt have time to get a wheel built and hes been pleased enough to come back and order the same wheelset in 29" for his other mtb.

If you really wanted to have fun though you could do the Tune King/Kong or Prince/Princess deal with Pillar spokes and whatever light rim (stans, Kinlin, whatever) and have a really fast, superlight set of wheels.

I could seriously go for a race course made of marshmallows now...
Superflies!

I have a sub-1000g wheelset planned. I already have the 89g front hub and 170g rear hub ready, and 200g ti-spokes (Marwi 2.0 on front left and rear right, Pillar 1422 for the other sides), 20g nipples, which adds up to 479g. If the InnoLite rims indeed weigh 250g each, I'm under 1000g. The goal is to make a wheelset that I can race on, and I weigh 80kg. My 1080g wheelset has lasted for one and a half season now.

thanks for the good news - lets see some pictures of your wheels, Ole!!!!! :-)

I had a Tune King/Kong Superscharff hubs/Pillar titanium spokes/Sun Limelite rims (328 grams) wheelset and they were about 1260 grams so sub 1000 grams surely needs other hubs than Tune and about 250 grams rims.

Ole - what hubs are you using ?

I've just worked out the DT 190's front with ceramics would be 90g, the rear 190 with ceramics and the new starratchet would be 190g.

The front is a 28h Extralite with ceramic bearings, weighing 89g. The rear is a prototype, currently with 2 ceramic and 2 hybrid ceramic bearings, weighing in at 170g. Both hubs are straight pull, 28h.

I'm still waiting for the rims. :(

I guess I'll be doing the initial testing with studded tires, just as with my last wheels.

Best I could get was 1187g with stan's yellow tape

Alex XCR Pro 28h front
Pillar 1430 titanium spokes qty 28, 2 cross
Tune King 28h front with hybrid enduro cermaic bearings

Alex XCR Pro 32h rear
Pillar 1430 titanium spokes qty 32, 3 cross
Tune Kong 32h, with a custom modified internally butted axle, enduro hybrid bearings, 6802 bearing instead of 6902 to save some weight

No problem with tubulars out here in the Canadian Rockies (no marshmallows, either  )
