The grey bit is some anti vibration thing that specialized put on their forks and stuff these days. Think its just a rubber coating around the post. merely a useless thing to try and make them sell more I reckon

The zerts elastomer post makes quite a difference. Enough of one that the last time I put my Easton post in place I thought I had my shorts on backwards. 260 gram post ... heavy but nice riding . Good for those century days ... 15 3/4 pound Roubaix With all my Zerts . I figure I can get it down to sub 14 with Zert fork and post ... Yeah there staying on my bike.

I was talking about that, not the zerts thing. On the bikes you can buy now theyve got the rubber band thingo around the forks as well. Cant really do anything as its just sitting on top of it. If it was a structural part id be worried.
