WHy do you run a long cage RD when you only have a double up front and 11-28 in the rear? I would have thought you would have been able to get by with a short or mid cage.

Don't see as many manitou forks anymore, all fox and and rock shox. How much travel does the Spyder R have?

What does it ride like? Looks to have very long chain stays. Looks like a very nice bike. Have fun continueing to WW it

When you add some new photos can you do a close up of the rear drop outs?

phallenthoul, thanx mate!

Phill P, much of the parts were transferred from my previous "do it all" bike, hence the longcage X.7 ...so it's more of an economical choice than a practical one, and it will be swapped for shortcage dito - I've just been putting that expence off for a while, since I don't want to part with the X.0 gripshifts and I'm thinking/hoping that SRAM will soon come up with something to challenge Shimano's shadow-RD's, making the current X.0 RD old news...

Pics of the dropouts, and much more closeups (the frame's full of neat little features) will come as soon as I've sorted out my camera... The chainstays are 425mm.

The Manitou Spyder R TPC ´99 fork has a claimed 75mm of travel, more like 70mm i real life, has MCU elastomers and weights in at ~1520gr with cut steerer... It was cheap and light, but I'm dreaming of a blue SID wc to replace it 'til spring...

As for the ride, I haven't had a chance to test it enough yet, but so far it really feels smooth in a flowing, nimble sort of way...

What the exact weight of your 11-28 cassette? I saw that 370g claimed, but it is peculiarly.

If you ever break your legs deep into the forest this bike can be used to signal the helicopters. It's so shinny!

Haysack, the exact weight of the cassette when brand new was 232gr including lock-ring, it's the cheap PG-950... But the build quality and shifting is a little so-so, but it's nice weight for the price and here in Sweden there's no point in running expensive drivetrains in the winter ;-)

TheBugMan, I believe in cleaning the bike properly after every ride - it's my sacred postride mediation :-)

Weightwise, there's surely alot that could be done... the seatpost is far from light, I prefer to use steel-QR's (tried Enigma Ti-skewers, too flexy) and the fork could easily have been a Token/Ritchey at half the weight, but I like a bit of sturdiness...

About the wheels, I'm hoping to build a set of light "raceday-only" wheels and run Schwalbe FF or Maxxis 285 on them, but as for everyday riding, the ~1750 gr CrossRide's are decent in my opinion...

EDIT(!),
Since one of my Tune bottlecages broke today, and I mounted my old trustworthy Blackburn Chicane stainless steel unit instead, I also decided to share the REAL, actual weight of the bike, as is when ready for riding... Including both the waterbottles, grease, cableties and what not... New pics will take 'til next week as ParcelForce is late delivering a package with new stuff...

A new horse has arrived in the stable. Seriously not that light, but very much fun to ride. See update in the first post.
