So, about two hours ago, in the middle of a cross race in Herne Hill (London UK), i found out i had nowhere to sit on my bike anymore :(

Didn't get hurt, but my heart feels broken - i am a 72kg cat4 club rider, way below the weight limit of the seatpost (85kg), and the seatpost/bike never been involved in a crash :(

Now let's hope that AX can help me out on this :(

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is not a road bike! You don't suppose that has something to do with the failure? I suspect so.

I would never put such a delicate piece of equipment on a bike that's treated not particularly in a silky smooth fashion. That's like asking for problems. I'm glad you're unhurt though because failure of a carbon part can be a pain in the ass (sometimes quite literally).

I wouldn't call herne hill the most off road kind of place, I would say this post should have handled that. Roberto wasn't this your 1st outing with this post?

That sucks.

Glad to hear you did not get an unexpected carbon nano colon probe.

New Black Thompson Masterpiece post and that bike is ready to roll. Stick to alu for cross. Lesson learned the hard way on my side too, but fortunately not with such an exotic piece of carbon equipment.

That could have been a real OUCH!

I just ordered a 3T Doric LTD post for my CX bike. It weighs quite a bit more than the AX but I think it will hold up well for cross racing with an Arione saddle.

Incredibly thin walls on that thing. Boring old me again but I would have opted for something a bit more robust.

Actually, it says right on the back of the seatpost:

How many Nm had you torqued the seatpost bolts to?

Some say we all learn through financial or physical pain. Glad you only got the former.

Nice post, and if they replace it, I'd stick it on a road frame and get a more robust post for something you're riding off road.

Surely, it doesn't say CX!

Tell you what, I'll speak with Axel Schnura and his people, while I'm going to see him on friday at Eurobike anyway, and suggest him to replace your seat post. :)

I will save these photos on my laptop so the AX people can see for himself.

Thanks, really appreciate the help!

BTW just wanted to say i am not trying to say "hey we should all stop using AX products" - i love AX and have their saddles on all my bikes - and yes just sharing the story.

Bike parts unfortunately happen to break, if you don't want to ever have trouble with your bike then better not ride it :)
