In the forest with less then 10min to go, I hardly could not hold onto Vogel. With the super slippery ground we had to deal with, we also had to walk the one steep ramp, where my carbon road shoes did not have the grip to keep firm on the ground and Vogel. That was the tipping point, and from there on the European title was getting out of sight.

Seems like he made the wrong choice...horses for courses...

Personally I would have suggested that he pre rides the course to find this sort of thing out. Would seem like the professional thing to do, but what would l know?!

It started raining near the end of the race so it could have been an easy climb when it was dry, turning into an unrideable section when it got wet.
