The Astana team management has just announced that they've been invited for the Giro d'Italia. Klöden, Contador and Leipheimer will compete.

Angelo Zomegnan and an Astana official were interviewed on the phone during today's live coverage of the Tour du Romandie on Belgian television.

Does this mean the "top pro rider" implicated in the medical passport program is not from Astana? Let's hope so.

I think it is good news. You want to have the best riders and teams participating in the most important races. If the Astana riders do really well it will put more pressure on the TDF. If it clearly doesn't have the best riders the race becomes less important. I am also curious how the late notice will affect the Contador and Leipheimer as they probably weren't training for a race of this difficulty.

Nope, you want to best clean riders and the best clean teams in the most important races.

Adding Johan Bruyneel to manage Kloden at Astana makes me chuckle, but it doesn't really say 'clean' to me.

if it's ok for ogrady, mcgee, millar, backstedt, danielson, zabel, valverde, deluca and the rest then why not astana?

I don't see anyone questioning Lemonds wins when he rode for Gan even though several Gan riders from the past have dodgy reputations..........
