Thompson Elite "Tuned"
Moderator: robbosmans
Had some free time at work yesterday. So it was time to tinker...
Down to 158g from 198g
It is a 31.6, was 287mm long and is now 240mm.
The centers of the head have been milled out, the edges have been trimmed back and the top of the post has been milled down.
This weight is with tuned stock steel bolts and barrels.

Good work, can you do mine please? :-)
I already filed away the fwd part of the lower saddle rail clamp since it was cause abrasion to my cycle shorts (my saddle is as far back as possible) but I never imagined how far you could take it.
I suppose cutting it to length was by far the biggest weight saver. I once tried cutting a 400mm 30.9 Thompson post and it was not easy, the alu was quite hard. Is that because it's 7000 series? Most cheaper alu posts are soft as hell.

Yes the 7000 series is pretty hard. But it does machine nice.
It doesnt seem to gaul up as much as softer alum.
The 45mm long piece of tube weighed out to 19g.
So there is about 15-20g from the head and bolts.
I think you take a little more off the head parts to get a few more grams but i figured this was enough for now.

Asphaltdude,
I replaced clamp like that with Thomson upper plate and I think
Thomson is lighter and better (Ridley Helium ISP).
rebizap,
now you need to watch all the dirt from back wheel
getting thrown under a saddle and falling down right on the BB.
Piece of tape on the upper plate?

His BB should be sealed, and if he isn't mountain biking, he should be fine anyway.
Here is Ti bolts and nuts for the post:

Also the saddle cradle(lower part) can be made from ofcut from any carbon fork cut in half lengthwise.
