Frankie,

That are those things on your brakes??? They look like a part I have seen used to mount canti's on bikes that only have a single bolt caliper mount like a road bike, but in that case I thought they'd be under the brakes.... plus it looks like your bike has canti mounts... so what are those?

Just curious, and the bike looks amazing!

well, it's just that a winter training bike is usually one that isn't too expensive, one that you don't mind grinding out the wet, gritty muddy miles on such that the decent, expensive kit on your best bike isn't thoroughly shagged by the spring. depends where you live I suppose, California would be different to Northern Europe......

These are brakeboosters, they prevent the frame, or fork, from flexing to much while braking. So stopping power goes up! Some 10 years ago we used them quite a lot on our canti equipped mtb's.
On my SS they are there for the added coolness ;)

I don't mind treating it rough...if I'm going to train on it and log the miles I prefer to enjoy the ride. :)

You are kinda new to this Huh? Those are brake boosters, used to stiffen Canti brakes. They were really common in the 90s.

ah, well... being a completely pedantic ass, but in a fun way with no offence intended 'cos it's a lovely bike, then it's not really your 'winter bike' with ref to the title of the thread... it's just your bike.
Don't worry, only having a bit of fun, it's a nice machine and I wish sometimes I lived somewhere where the winter weather wouldn't rapidly eat nice components like that... hence my cheapy fixed gear ride.

Ah, I see...thanks for the compliments. I simply meant it'll see most of its miles in the winter since I spend most of the time in spring/summer on the road.
