SID World Cup 2005 1095,26g
Moderator: Moderator Team
Some time ago I posted "How to tune SID World Cup" on WW. I recieved some replies amog which Nino's seemed to be the most interesting. He scored 1068g using some parts from SID Race 2001. I had such SID and decided to tune my new World Cup in similar way in the future. I purchased SID WC 2005 last month and tuned it to 1098,54g. This is how I done it:
My new SID WC 2005
On the scale w/out poploc lever. NOTE claimed (RockShox) 1299g
and w/poploc That's surely NOT light weight fork.
I tuned original WC's legs because those of SID Race 2001 had bushings worn out
First I file the disc brake holder off
it saved 10,53g
Next step was removing stock painting and stickers and sanding the legs. weight saving: 7,27g
New painting and custom made stckers +3,48g
From 2002 RockShox does not use cartridges as damping system any more. The 2005 PureDelite system is really heavy
PureDelite works more effective than cartridge. However you don't need it when you use your fork mainly to race. The cartridge from SID Race 2001 works great. It's also THE LIGHTEST damping system used by RockShox. Replacing PureDelite by cartridge saves 160,25g
NOTE: it's non-servicable and non-adjustable cartridge. You don't need rebound adjuster any more . Weight saving: 3,5569g
Replacing new alu air cap by the old one saves 3,9253g
Final effect: tuned SID WC 2005 UL project. Real weight: 1098,54g
And some pics of my fork:
The lightest option is to use 2001 Race lower legs:
Blue painting has thick layer; removing and sanding it saves 20,86g
With this legs (add 3g for new painting and stickers) SID WC will weigh superb 1081,72g
thanx to Marek Tyniec and Wojciech 'Woytex' Frackowiak for help

No, it's not. In my opinion it's impossible to get under 1100g without removing lockout. First I tried not to remove lockout replacing only pop loc by the plastic climb-it control adjuster (from SID Race). Tuned SID WC 2005 in such way comes with 1289,68g. See pics below. It was too much so I decided not to use lockout any more. You don't need to use lockout when you weigh not too much. My old SID Race 2001 worked great. I'm sure my new WC 2005 will also.
why did you removed the regulators for only 4grs?
which regulators are you talikng about?

on my SID SL 02 (one of the heavy ones) this bold was replaced by an AL-bold normaly used to close the hole if u removed the brakestud.
i think, this screw can be replaced by an Al-bolt, there were no heavy loads on.
felix
P.S. this could be usefull for all SID SL 02 user they dont need to twist on their rebound all the time, it will save 11gr.

what painting weight only 3 gramms?
is there a damping system in the rigt side of the fork? at the left are the positiv and negativ air?
-> i have a sid sl `99 and a sid sl `03 the lightest cobination is 1170g (with: ti canti studs/ stock paint, without: lock out/ disk brake stud)

It's acryl spray which gives very thin layer which is rather short lasting

The damping system is in THE LEFT (having the fork face to face) side of the fork, and at THE RIGHT are positiv and negativ air.
Pedä wrote:what is the weight of the carbon part with the upper tubes?
It's ca. 736g. I mean carbon steerer integrated w/upper tubes and with internals (left: non-adjustable cartridge; right: positive and negative air). I do not know the weigh of the separated carbon steerer w/upper tubes because I removed internals only from left upper tube. Comparing to Nino's post on http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t ... id+project it should be around 483g
what is the weight of the cap, without the `ventil`(i mean the hole for filling with air) nad wher can i get such a cap?
Do you mean THIS top cap showed on the pic?
Unfortunately I did not weigh it
