Ideas from me? I don't think so. :wink:

My hardtail weighs about 11.5 kg, the only real lightweight part on the bike is the front wheel with CX-Ray spokes.
More interesting is perhaps my fathers 700C Trekking/Commuting bike:
weight varies between 11.7 kg in pure road config and 13.5 kg in touring/offroad config
You should keep in mind that these weights include such heavy things like a rear carrier and a 450 g saddle (a.k.a. the Foam Monster).

It has a very light drivetrain and light wheels, especially the road wheel config puts your energy directly in pure acceleration:

Rims are good ol' Mavic T217 (470 g each), tyres are Continental Ultra Gatorskin (622-28, 320 g each) and tubes are Vittoria Latex (75 g each).
For long distance non-pavement tours the Contis are replaced by flat-resistant and durable Schwalbe Marathon XR's (in 622-35 600 g per tyre) and Schwalbe Trekking Butyl tubes (130 g per tube).
Latex tubes would be nice for the offroad config, but they aren't available in such big sizes. :(

The '01 Egg Beaters have a very smooth and intelligent design, but aren't performing very well. Much play in the bearings and bad sealing.
But as far as I heard these issues were improved with the 2002 models.

That was a scary bike...not because it looks heavy--It was just surprising...alot. I had just been viewing the under 20lbs bikes on this site.

...what touring bikes are?
...that usually these bikes weigh more than 15 kg?
...that the bike above could easily be transformed into a sub 20 lbs bike?
