Apparently it doesn't even matter if you lock up your bike. A thief could use an angle grinder without so much as being questioned by a pedestrian.

I have a "pub bike" for that exact reason.

I agree .. I use a kryptonite but it has the "vending machine" type key. Mostly a deterrant, can't see someone stealing it. More annoying is having skewers or a seat stolen. If I rode the cheap bike in the city more I'd probably buy locking skewers too.
Try riding a pub bike. It's cheap to operate and good training.
