If any of you ever lock up your expensive bikes, even if only for a second, you might want to take a look at this:

Apparently it doesn't even matter if you lock up your bike. A thief could use an angle grinder without so much as being questioned by a pedestrian.

If I had to go somewhere and lock the bike I'd use the bike that's probably worth less then many new locks. :)

I have a "pub bike" for that exact reason.

Still it's worth informing other riders about bike security.

Watch the clip, it's really good.

I agree .. I use a kryptonite but it has the "vending machine" type key. Mostly a deterrant, can't see someone stealing it. More annoying is having skewers or a seat stolen. If I rode the cheap bike in the city more I'd probably buy locking skewers too.

Try riding a pub bike. It's cheap to operate and good training.
You'll apreciate your road bike more too.

Bruiser,

shed some grams and lose those reflectors!

the mud guards look like a heavy luxury too!

and that spoke guard over your cassette!

My professor once left his brand new Trek 5500 outside for like a minute or so, when he came back out it was gone.

I've also lost a bike I left momentarily.

The training bike isn't supposed to be light, and who is going to steal a rusty old Appolo?
