'06 Pro Machine Build

Hello WWs,

I wanted to show you my first build, a BMC Pro Machine SLC01. I completed it last week and have been having a great time riding (even in the cold) this week. My previous bike was a Cannondale CAAD 7 with DA 10. After several kilometers using Campy I don't think I'll be going back to Shimano (YMMV). The only real problem is now I want to build another bike! Of course I don't need it, I just had a great deal of fun building this one!


Here are the specifications;
53 cm frame
Campagnolo Record '07 with compact cranks and 11-23 cassette
Zero Gravity Brakes
Keo Pedals
Campy and Nokon cables
Ksyrium ES wheelset
Deda Tre RS Corsa tires
Token - seat, post, stem, handlebars and bottle cages
Garmin Edge 305 computer
Weight, as seen, 6.6 kg, 14.6 lbs

I suspect it's because of the garmin edge speed/cadence unit ?

Why the magnet is on rear wheel?

It's part of the Garmin Edge 305 cadence/speed system for use when training inside on rollers or a trainer. When riding outside the Edge doesn't use it unless you lose satellite coverage.

questions: why change the seatpost from ec90 to token? is the token lighter?
whats the weight on the saddle and the seatpost?

you know you can shedd some gr by cutting the cables shorter especially the FD cable?

The ec90 seatpost which shipped with the frame was a setback model, it went back too far for me (put the saddle in a strange position) and the horizontal adjustment on it are very coarse. This post allows infinite adjustment and I already had it sitting around anyway. I'll have to weight it today. I'll be cutting the cables shorter when I'm satisfied that I'm happy with the setup, thanks for the suggestion.

Do you have a photo of the built TT01 yet?

I have two more tips for you:
throw away the cable tensioners on the downtube near the headtube - you dont need them!

you have a tensioner on the rear derailur
you can use a cable puller tool to set the front derailur

you will save 5-10 gr!!! and shorter cables!


no picture of the TT01 - parts will take some time to arrive - but I will post the picture once I have it!

Excellent build. How do you like the Garmin 305? I am considering one form my bike. I have a 90mm stem so I am wondering how it will look mounted, possibly a little too big. How long is your stem, and do you have any cockpit pics?

Q: I just noticed something here. The clamping hardware on the frame seat post clamp looks EXACTLY like the replaceable clamping hardware on the Easton EA70 Stem. Can anyone confirm that it is the same?

If so watch for corrosion. My bolt heads started to rust after the first wet ride on my stem.
