to CRUSH everyone else. Tom Danielson absolutely DESTROYED the record for riding up Mt. Evans this weekend (14,000' monster in Colorado), and he did it on his stock team issue bike(ok, he had SRM cranks on it). I've hefted these things before and they are NOT weight weenie bikes (shockingly heavy).

Just imagine how fast he would have been if he would have used a light bike
Whow! That's a pretty damn nice garage door!

or if the weather hadn't sucked so bad. Or if the field had been interested in trying to break the record. The race started out incredibly slow, and Tom jumped away very early and just drove solo. Just astounding.

Well, I'm stating the obvious, but of course, the "engine" is always the most important part of a bike. :)

By the way, a Pina Prince SL w Record, Ksyrium SL, Deda Newton isn't THAT heavy..... ok, i won't be under 7,5 kilo's but hey many cyclists would love to ride a bike like that

And ehm.... was it cold out there.... he's wearing full gloves on the photo....

almost everyone wore arwarmers, full gloves, many wore vests, knee or leg warmers, hats under helmets. It was maybe 45 degrees at the starting line, let alone up top!

The marmots were hiding from the cold! ;)

It poured like crazy the night before, but no rain during the race kept people from getting wiped out frmo hypothermia.

@Racing: a bit OT, but your wife is an excellent photographer. Really nice images.

I was training on a 15kg Apollo 1 today. Jumping on my Scott is like gaining the ability to fly.

Maybe Tom Danielson does a similar training/racing swap?
