but have you tested this design for strength? You're not going to mount it on your bike and just go riding are you?

When you build stuff yourself, going out and riding it is your testing! That's how I've always tested my parts. You could do some finite element analysis provided you have the software and you actually know what you're doing.

Tillquist, very fine job! This is one elegant stem. In fact I think it is the nicest stem I've ever seen - beats everything you can buy!

Look ma, no hands! Look ma, no teeths!

I looked the images, and came also bit worried, although it looks quite impressive. Did you let it run trough a FEA-program at the first stage?

That's the way most manufacturers test their stems, they just put it on your bike and see if it holds up!

Looks nice and the weight is good!

why did you choose that angle - looks like alot of spacers under your stem?

excellent work, Morten!

Looks like some nice work but akin to an anorexic Thomson X2... I would try and test it without riding it though.... make two or three.. hang some weights of it... at least up to your bodyweight.. then factor in some kind of err.. safety factory %.. Being WW is cool but having surfing asphalt on your face at 30+mph wouldn't be worth 50g savings?... or is that not in the WW spirit?

Thanks collideous.
No, i don't have a computer software, so i can test it's before i made the stem... :(

The Custom made TT-bar i made last winther still hold  ...so i am sure this stem also will hold....

I am not sure, but aboute 23-28 hours....
3-4 hours to draw it, in AutoCad.
6 hours in a CNC Lath.
10 hous in a CNC Vertical Machining Center.
2-3 hours to made some spec tools, i use to made the stem.

This stem are made for my road bike, i will made a -5° or -10° for my MTB bike... so this stem are only on the MTB to tray it out.

I agree with Luc about not anodising it - look sgreat with the bontragerbar the way it is. Quick set of links for finite element analysis programs though - I think all of them are free, havent checked them out, just collected the links then for you

No problem - I've been meaning to try out some FEA for some designs I've had lying arround (actually had to throw out half of them, the office was getting to dusty), and since I cant ride today its the least I could do.

I'm just downloading the Z88 one now to try it out.
