Just to get an opinion of people who have used different brake pads on carbon rims, which one is best in the wet/dry?

1. Campagnolo
2. Corima
3. Kool Stops (supplied with Reynolds)
4. Shimano
5. Zipp

On Shimano 7800 brakes:
I have found that the Zipps stop the best, but wear very quickly. Followed by the Kool Stops/Renolds (but they squeal no matter how the tos or camber is adjusted). Any other findings?

On Campagnolo brakes:
I still find the Zipps stop better, followed by the KS.

I just raced yesterday on Reynolds Stratus with Campy carbon pads in the rain. I had very little braking power heading into turns. I almost overshot the first right hand turn of the race because they wouldn't slow me down at all. I'll be looking for an alternative pad in the future.

Thanks Kingtom,

Is there any place to get the yellow pads online? I tried the Swisstop site and Starbike site, but they only list green and black for sale.

Thanks Kingtom,

I tried emailing Swissstop, no reply - probably have to ask Florian from Starbike if he could get these. Local dealers in Munich haven't got these either. Meanwhile - I would still use the Zipp carbon pads - 1 set every 3-4 months - but they do stop well.

Just an update on the Zipp carbon break pads. As I said before, a bit grabby on the Zipp 202 carbon rim when dry. I unfortunately got caught in a major rain storm yesterday, and they worked very well in the rain. I was pleasantly surprised by the stopping power in the wet. They are on Shimano 7800. Does anyone know if the Swisstop yellow works with 7800?

Got just a mail from lightweight .....
we developed our own Lightweight brakepads in the last few months.
www.carbonsports.de/Fotogalerien/LWBelag.jpg We did this in cooperation with
www.swissstop.ch and all tests in the lab show best results and very little
wear of the pads. :)
no pain no gain

"All our wheels can be ridden by any rider regardless of weight. Even the 12-spoke model is safe for road racing by heavier riders."

Uhhhh maybe I should get a pair for the CR-1.....

Think about spokes, they can take around 10 times load than steel spokes.

But...there are only 25g difference on 12/20 spoked front wheels. So 20 for me. 20 is not many anyway. And idea of LW wheels is stiffnes, not making only low spoke wheels.

Just an update - I managed to get the Swissstop yellows - both Campy and Dura Ace 7800(just get Shimano type) types.

For both wet and dry - I still prefer Koolstop grey (from Reynolds), and Zipps. The Swissstops are great in the dry only.

We do get sudden thunderstorms here in near the tropics....
