Have a set of 28-hole Araya ADX-5 track tubulars (appx. 240 grams). I realise these are not intended for use where braking is an issue, but does anyone have any info on whether or not such rims can be safely used on the road under light braking conditions. Am easy on equipment - rode Fiamme Ergal rims as my everyday wheels for several years. Thanks for your input!

I've asked our best wheel builder (whizz-wheels) and they said that rims under 300 g (Superchampion, Mavic Gel 280, Araya Titan) are not stiff enough to use them on road. So I chose the Ambrosio Crono (340 g; have a look at: www.ambrosiospa.com ).

The biggest issue I have found building ultra-light rims for the road is this lack of stiffness. The front builds fine but the dish (flange offset) on the rear wheel (especially with low spoke counts) make durability highly suspect.
