first issue is will it fit in the frame and fork, also with some mud or leaves or snow. wider tubs are nearer to the brake pads because of the bigger radius/diameter, so pay attention to not cut the walls with brake pads.
uci rules say tire width maximum is 35 mm. i would say if you call richard(dugast) and discuss this, anything is possible.

I'm building an 29" Disc MTB, and thought it might be neat to run Tub's, so no problem with Clearance. I know about Dugast (actually can go to 45mm), I was looking a Cheaper(and easier/faster) more Durable option. Any Idea of how that 45 MM would work on a Zip 303, or Corima Aero Rim? Does anyone make a lightweight Wide Carbon Rim?

CX rules limits tyre witdh to under 35mm. So that why it's hard to find wider ones....

after gluing a 32mm tufo flexuswith a tufo-tape on a zipp rim, i lost it in the first race
i told tufo and they said that these kind of rims are not allowed for cyclocross tires.they say they are not wide enough...
what a bullshit.....

i always need tools to get my tires off the rim ,if i need a good glue like victoria

He wants to mount a pair of tubulars on a 29" mtb, no problem at all with UCI rules here I have seen a guy that had road rims on disc hubs with dugast tubulars in a Scott Scale mtb. Although the bike isn't made for it they just cleared the frame by a few mm. Maybe not a good idea if there is a lot of mud, but I think they worked good for him in that particular race.
If your mtb frame is made for 29" wheels there shouldn't be any fit problems at all. The downside to the UCI rules is that (AFAIK) none of the conventional companies like Tufo or Vittoria are making tubulars wider then 34 mm. I think Dugast might be your only option, you probably have to supply your own thread for them to make your tires, so depending on the thread I wouldn't expect you to have problems with durability.

Didn't Reynolds make a rim that was slightly wider for their CX wheels? I'm not sure about this, but if you want to run 40-45 mm tubs I would definetly choose the widest rim available!
