Colnago C60 vs Cannondale SS Hi Mod vs Canyon Ultimate

Hi all,

This is my first post as I have a bit of a dilemma that you can resolve.

I am currently assessing what bike to buy and it's proving more stressful than anticipated.

I typically ride 200-300k a week, and race road races and crits occasionally.

I have boiled my options down to the following:

Colnago C60
Ultegra Groupset (the only way to make it fit the budget)
Basic wheels (I have carbon wheels that I only use in races)

Cannondale SS Hi Mod 2017
Dura Ace
New models come with carbon wheels 40mm (probably surplus to my needs so I could sell them)

Canyon Ultimate SLx 9.0 2016 (end of year sale)
Dura ace
Comes with lightweight mavic climbing wheels (I don't own any so could be of use)

They are all close in cost by a couple of hundred dollars. All have pluses and minus's, and all would be great options.

I would really appreciate some feedback from either those that have ridden the options previously or who generally have a useful opinion.

If you want a frame for a season or two then go for either the SS or the SLX. If you want a frame to keep and enjoy for many years that will not loose its value then that's the C60. Simple as that...

All of the frames will lose value, though the C60 will retain more yes, reflecting the more timeless nature of Collies

I would not go C60 on grounds of weight primarily - exacerbated given you have to downgrade the groupset. All up it will be what 500g+ heavier than the other two. Also the C60 is very probably less aero, which in this case isn't a huge deal, but it's another negative.

It's a tough one between the Canyon and Cannondale. Along with the Aeroad, they are the best value pro level framesets out there. Assuming the fit issue is covered then just get the one you like the look of most. One negative for the Cannondale is the 25.4mm seatpost. Oddball stuff that probably doesn't do much other than limit options. Likewise make sure the Canyon aerobars work for you ...

C60 demands D-A or Reccord.

I've had same question some years ago.
Now I bought SS HiMod after 2010 Colnago top EPS.
Now I use Colnago for training and never never sell it.
C'dale frame is little bit lighter, but it's frame for one season!

I wouldn't go for the C60 option:
- the frame is overpriced
- the frame is heavy compared to the other 2
- the Ultegra groupset is already a few years old and Shimano will release a new Ultegra by next summer

Colnago has a beautiful ride. Paint job is special too. And as another poster wrote will not lose as much value and will be a bike you will want to ride year after year. I am biased however. I've been riding a C-59 for over three years and couldn't be happier. Also nothing wrong with Ultegra. Many high end bikes come so equipped. i wouldn't go any lower however.

- More expensive because it is handmade in Italy and not in China.
- Heavier because it is much more durable than the Cannondale or the Canyon. Thicker tubes, lugs, ribs, bb sleave etc. add to the weight as well.
