Cannondale Slate, saw in the net and was love at first sight.
but then ....i red the weight and i was afraid ...

how can I spend so much money to have an heavy bike ? it's not a specialized ...

so i decide to go on with a custom project.

found a 52cm complete bike used only 10 times on road by a friend
found a used DLR OPI 110mm 26" Lefty carbon (the lightest fork of the family), sent to 88+ Italy to shorten the full lenght (to match cyclocross bike geometry) and reduced in travel as the Slate fork to 30mm
found some adapters ( EP carbon steerer tube for 1 1/8 frames and 1 1/8 to 1 1/4 bearing shim)
found some light parts to buy or in my garage

and it was born ...

in my 1st week of use here on holiday in Maremma-Tuscany i did the Festive500 of Strava with this bike.

the 38mm tyres are fast rolling, but after 100km on the road i felt a bit tyred ... maybe the tyre section? or maybe i am arriving from a 1 month riding stop?

however on the dirt it's very funny : i did some trails here normally i rode with my Flash Di2 and was surprised about behaviour and tyre cornering ...

compared to mtb, braking space in the dirt is longer, for the absence of knobs
compared to road bike, braking space is shorter , for the wider section ( and i have disc brakes eqquiped bike )

I am not here to judge about preferences of other members here on WW.
But the fact that a great custom built disc cross bike with a lefty and those wheels totaling to 7.69 kg does not get more attention than ' a custom paint' is remarkable.

Is there any tire options on the market for it? Thought of using 29er wheels? The only that makes me skeptic about the Slate is the wheelsize

Beautiful! I am considering building something similar, but starting with an F29.

A bike like this is a perfect compromise for someone who lives near a mix of MTB trails, shitty roads, and has to deal with bad weather etc.

To me a 5kg race specific bike doesn't make any sense because I don't live near any roads that wouldn't destroy it. But each to their own, give kudos where it is due.

i have a tubular rear wheel with Extralite hub (old 2007 Ultrahub) , sent to Cruel Components to transform it in a X D compatible hub
and in my team shop, SpaceBikes, on build a Exltralite 28h tubular front wheel

for use 28" road tubulars and cyclocross tubulars ... so in 1-2 months I can have this possibility too.

for a mtb 29er clincher wheelset, there is no clearance to use 2" tyres or similar ...


i bought 2 different pair of tyres, and want to install as mixed as nowadays conditions...

i have a Flash 29er with custom XTR Di2 setup

i have a Caad10 disc with custom Di2 setup

i have a Trek Boone disc with Force1 setup

i have a SystemSix with rim brakes with 2x11 setup 53-39 + 11-32

... in fact i have all i need. so, why not go "slating" ???
