To me they are identical in use. Nokon is a little heavier, but finish quality is nicer. I use IRD because the matt silver finish fits better into the overall mix of finishes for the parts I'm using.

Did you get my e-mail? I would be interested in your thoughts. I am at work now(that was my home address) You can forward it to dane.morrison@nbpcd.com, it looks like were building similar bikes, and looking for similar things.
I know that Nokon makes their shifting cables for both Shimano and Campy drivetrains, but I am wondering if the Shimano Nokon Cable woulid work with my campy 10 drivetrain? What exactly is the difference between the two types of cables from Nokon anyway?

the set for campagnolo contains fewer of the shiny, segmented parts as you don't need these for the section of the brakecable that's under the handlebar tape. instead it contains two lengths of a sort of flexible spiral.

I just switched from shimano to campy and I could reuse the nokon kit, I just had to add a few more 'perls'

Nokon. I cannot find IRD anywhere. On line, IRD recommends finding a dealer with it...guess what, they are all out. No more production at IRD, IIRC.
Why? Well, a quick patent search shows why. US Patent 6,606,921 shows a system of "pearls" in between "sockets" or the Nokon system. US Patent 6,250,175 shows a single component system. Both patents are claimed protection for the Nokon system. Just a hunch.
