2015 CAAD 10 Di2 wishing to hit 6.8kg
Moderators: MrCurrieinahurry, maxim809, Moderator Team
Thanks to all who contributed to my last post. I have got it down to 7.025kg, and thought that I can live with it. But the itch to hit the magic number 6.8 is driving me crazy lately. So, here I am again, asking all of you how can I lose 225 grams.

BoM:
Frame: 2015 CAAD10 with original uncut fork
Wheels: DA 9000 TL with QR skewers
Tires: Hutchinson Atom Tubeless 23, with Hutchinson sealant
Crankset: SiSL2 165mm 50/34
Pedals: Ultegra 6800
Bottle cage: Bontrager XXX
Brake Calipers: Ciamillo Micro
Seatpost: Fizik R1
Saddle: Fizik Antares 00
Stem: uno 7 80mm
Handlebar: 3t Aeronova LTD
Cassette: DA 9000 11s 11-28
BB: FSA Ceramic
Driveset: DA 9070 Di2 with sprinter buttons and D-fly
Things I must keep: handlebar, Tubeless wheelset, SiSL2, Antares saddle.
Things I wonder:
1. cut steerer, my steerer is carbon, how much can I save
2. Speedplay Zero Ti, is it worth the hassle because Shimano is maintenance free
3. I have Hylix carbon seatpost coming, but 160g vs now 200g is not much
4. I am using Shimano PRO Digital Carbon Smart Silicon Bicycle Handlebar Tape. Is Deda lighter and better?
5. Can swapping Al to Ti bolts actually save detectable weight?
I weight 160lbs, so most solutions are available to me.

Nice build! You can safe like 80 grams of the Dura Ace QR but some people like the bullet proof QR. I can't read or see it but do you have the new Cannondale headset plug? Old one weights way more then the new one. And my last few cents, you have a lot of seatpost in your frame so maybe you can cut a few cm?
If anything, I think Al is actually lighter than Ti bolts. I think you meant default steel bolts that you currently have? Honestly, I'm not that much of a weight weenie to bother with say, the 40g difference you mentioned in swapping out seatposts. Let alone GRAMS of difference in switching out bolts and bar tape..
Definitely do cut the steerer down though. But get comfortable with lower positions gradually. You mentioned not changing saddles but integrated saddle/seatposts can lose you at least 150g.
What's your inseam, height and bike size by the way?

A sub-50g titanium QR will be cost effective.
Your current stem is light...but you could also get an even lighter stem, like one from extralite. Bonus: the red on your current stem doesn't match the rest of the bike anyway.
You could also get a SRAM Red 11-25 cassette (claimed weight of 151g)

Changing the Dura Ace QR would save a fair bit. I went from 127g (DA C24s) to 40g (KCNC Ti) and saved 87g
The new Cannondale KP017 expander plug (about 15g) should save at least 30g compared to the old version. Personally I saved 34g (mine weighed 16g).
Definitely cut the steerer tube, and it looks like you can cut the seatpost quite a bit too. Between the two could you could probably save another 30-50g.
Next best place would probably be the pedals. Ultegra 6800 are 260g, stainless Speedplay Zeros are 206g, and can be another 35-40g lighter with aftermarket Ti spindles. You'd probably only save a couple grams going to Ti bolts, but maybe it's something to push you over the top. You could also look at a lighter seatpost clamp to save a couple grams.
Conservative estimates:
QR: 80g
Expander plug: 30g
Cutting steerer tube & seatpost: 30g
Pedals: 55g
-----
Total: 195g
That will get you most of the way there (or probably all the way with Ti spindles)
