Just browsed lightbikes and woundered if the "flyweight" already had a picture. I just found out that the "flyweight" is gone and Christian Frisioni has the lightest bike again!

I think that the 3k bike was a bit "incomplete" and they had a lot of complanints about that!

yeah, I saw that too. So I know that this question was asked a while ago, but now we have the giant show bike, which is a lot closer to rideable than the other SL bikes, but has limited special parts (no downtube shifter, Stork as opposed to CAT cranks etc) so do you think that there is a possibility for a sub 4K bike? I saw in an old cycling magazine with a U2 frame at 800gm that the builder felt that once magnesium could be effectively drawn into tubes with the same wall thickness as contemporary Alu tubsets we could see frame weights go to 500gm. Any thoughts?

A 800g Al frame will strugle to have a useful life (and I suspect this would be the same for a 500g Mg one).

The frame can be made this light and still be stiff, by using huge diameter, very thin wall tubes.

The downside to this approach is the ease of dinging the tube leading to a "coke can" failure.
