Hi newbie with daft questions

Hi. I'm new to the forum. Been lurking and reading but this is my first post.
I have an orbea road bike that is my main ride but it's no lightweight at 8.7 kg.

I'm looking to upgrade but don't know whether the buy or build. Have a budget of around £2500. Is it possible to build a sub 6.5kg bike for this money or am I best to buy. I've seem bikes for this money around £6.8kg.
If it is possible to build where is best to start looking for parts etc.

Leaves you £1000 budget for crank, brake calipers, stem, bars, bar tape, saddle, pedals, wheels and tyres. Careful selection of those components and tubular wheels will see you sub 6.5Kg, clinchers sub 7Kg. Plenty of examples of light Foils on the forums here to give you some ideas

I was keen on that Scott deal but I dont think I can get used to the stack and reach combination; its very race geometry.

I'd say figure out what geo suits you first; test ride a few diff geometry bikes (endurance, race etc) and then start looking.

Trek H2 geometry (which is what I've got) is a good balance of both worlds i'd say.

Given your budget I think is very much achievable to get 6.8kg bike.

Thanks for the replies.
I keep looking at canyons as they do seem to be great bikes for the money. I just worry about not being able to sit on one to feel for size etc.
I'll get some pics of my current bike with a build description.

This is my current bike. No weightweenie!

Orbea asphalt frame forks
105 shifters and mechs
Dura ace cranks
Planet x brakes
Roval wheels.

It weights 9kg.
Is it worth spending money on this to get weight off it is my question.
It's a 2009 bike that was low spec to start with.

whatever you do keep the orbea, you will be very grateful that you've got something you're comfortable on to use through the winter without destroying your new carbon ( probably carbon anyway ) steed
