Went out for a 50km spin yesterday. Felt so good I tacked on an extra 100km. First 150km ride I've had time for in years. It was AWESOME! Except for the car crash that nearly took me out and the sunburn I came home with.

Yes they are. Unfortunately I can't run them on this bike... not enough clearance for the di2 wiring with a 30mm crank spindle. I am limited to a 24mm spindle so am using a standard Dura Ace crank now.

So, for only the second time since owning the bike, I had to adjust the front fork headset. I think it is the only downside to this bike. I love the clean look but it was a 30 minute process to remove the front brake, adjust the compression, and reinstall/center the brake. Fortunately it seems to be a bi-annual occurrence so it's not that big a deal.
Only other complaint is the finish I chose for the bike. It is not holding up well. I will likely have the bike stripped and repainted when I get back to the U.S. later this year.

Ugh! My bike seems to have died. Di2 is completely dead. I tried charging it overnight with no results. And of course, tomorrow is a holiday. I leave Saturday morning for 5 months and was so looking forward to having my bike with me. Blah! Happy New year my ass.

California Bicycles Inc. in La Jolla, CA built me a brand new custom internal battery in time for my trip. Unfortunately, upon arrival, I discovered the front shifting was gone. Turns out the front derailleur has failed and was drawing on the old battery enough to kill it. New battery is fine and holding a charge with the front derailleur disconnected. Now I have to find another 7970 front derailleur.

It looks like there was more going on than just a bad derailleur. The fault might have corrupted the system. Bike is on its way to CalBike who will disassemble it and troubleshoot the system. While it's apart I am having it repainted. Depending on my budget I may upgrade to the new 9070 di2.

I managed to score a 9070 di2 group (including cranks) for $1400.00. My bike is enroute to CA where it will be disassembled, stripped, repainted, and rebuilt with the new group.
