Someone is not happy with their Osymetrics:

I believe the vial found contained painkillers, tramadol or similar.

From what I can see, it looks like the label says 'test propionate', so, yeah, not painkillers.

Then I ask myself, why would a rider have a vial of testosterone with him during the race? Seems a bit illogical to me.

Hesjedal-esque amount of drop on that. Actually looks pretty boss with classic drops and deep section tubs...

I'd been thinking that too. Would love to see another sweep by Gilbert.

On a disappointing note, it's sad to see my compatriot Italians continue to struggle to win a classic.

Know some guys who race, "many" of them take painkillers, before and during. The vial seems a nice way to take them, some of the guys tend to put them in the food and such to hide a bit more. On the bibs, everyone could see and it could slip. In the last xco olympics, you can see at least one guy using a similar container. But you race, surely you know better than I do. And you'll know there are guys who use morphine aswell.

The versions that talk about caffeine and salt, I find hard to believe, but I also know a lot of guys who carry dried fruits in such a container, maybe it was a nice mixture.

Whatever it was, it wasn't an insta dope xpto >300 watts, so my bet is really a painkiller, opioid analgesic drug.

Pretty sure most opioid type painkillers are banned unless a TUE is held by the rider

In a way the whole vial controversy is a bit funny because I also carry a vial on endurance events.

So I don't know what "test" means but it seems likely it's nothing illegal. Some mixture of stuff.

Tramadol is not banned, hence it's popularity as a finishing boost!

Test Propionate is a steroid. It is a short acting testosterone ester that is only active in the system for 8-15 hours or thereabouts. It would be VERY advantageous for endurance athletes as it also has a low amount of sides- no water retention, very little aromatization to estrogen, and small doses wouldn't require any sort of post cycle therapy. Very common amongst bodybuilders or weightlifters close to competition. I'm not sure that it comes in a vial such as the one found as it is usually sold in ampules or larger pharmaceutical vials.

I can't fathom how someone can race at that level on Tramadol or Morphine. I was given both once by a terrible West African doctor and was knocked completely on my ass.

I never twigged before. All the time people prattle on about "The sensations were good". I thought it was just some odd subtlety lost in translation.

Turns out they mean they're smacked off their face on opiates.
