16/20 DA 7900 hubs laced to wide rims?
Moderator: robbosmans
Hi guys, I wrecked the front rim of my DA7900 C24 wheelset. Instead of buying another DA rim from Shimano, I would like to re-lace the DA hubs to aftermarket wide rims. Pacenti, H PLus Son, etc.
My question is with the C24 hubs being 16 front and 20 rear, will I be able to build up a set of wheels stiff and durable enough as my everyday training wheels? I weigh 165lbs. Don't put down a ton of power but do ride on crappy roads and even gravel sometimes.

@grnrcr - Good luck finding a rim. There are a couple of fairly common options with 16h drilling like the KinLin XR300 and Velocity DeepV but they're quite narrow. AFAIK most of the new 'wide' rims only go down to 18h.
@bm0p700f - 7850/7900 series wheels use a regular straight pull spoke. 7800/7801 use the double ended spoke.

I think it would be damn near impossible to find a wide 16 hole rim. You could take a 32 hole and just use every other hole but the drilling offset wouldn't be correct at that point.
